Brandon Nguyen selected to 2011 All-State football team

For most of the Irish football seniors, football is over. However, senior Brandon Nguyen will at least get to play one more organized game before he heads to college.

The Oklahoma Coaches Association selected Nguyen to the 2011 All-State football team. A selection his coach felt what was very deserving.

“You’re hard-pressed to find a player that epitomizes what a true football player is all about,” McGuinness head coach Justin Jones said. “[Brandon] is the total package from a character standpoint. The way he walks and talks; the way he plays when he is on the field with passion and desire.”

Not only did Brandon Nguyen contribute in a big way to McGuinness’ 10-win season and trip to the state semi-finals, he lead Class 4A in tackles with 159 this past season.

Not to mention, he ran for 270 rushing yards on 34 carries and found the endzone on three occasions.

Nguyen’s season started shaky after being diagnosed with a concussion during a preseason scrimmage against Lawton MacArthur. However he did not miss the season opener against Shawnee, and made a huge difference for the Fighting Irish.

“We’re certainly proud of [Brandon],” Jones said. “He has definitely set a standard for the type of football player that we want in our program.”
