Lady Irish Golf defends state crown in Owasso

Last season it was sophomore Caitlin Farris starting off her high school career leading McGuinness to a state championship and finishing first in 4A. This year, though, freshman Lexi Sadeghy was the breakout newcomer for Coach Farris’ team.

Lady Irish golf once again took the state championship at Owasso, OK on Thursday. The state title is McGuinness’ third title since 2007.

Altus’ Megan Blonien led individually with a 69 on day one and 73 on day two, but Sadeghy and Farris finished second and third behind Blonien.

Farris trailed Blonien by only four shots after day one, but Sadeghy took second individually after a solid 75 on day two.

Senior Ashley Voss, junior Grace Castillo, and sophomore Katie Vaughn also had good showings allowing every Lady Irish golfer to place in the top 22.

The Lady Irish capped off another season with a state championship, and this marks the second state title for McGuinness sports this year.

Seems like the change to 5A, didn’t do too much damage, now did it?
