The school year is wrapping up, and most McGuinness students are focused on final exams and summer vacation. For freshman Caitlin Farris, she was focused on winning a golf state championship in her first year at McGuinness.
With the support of her dad and Irish golf coach, Todd Farris, Caitlin and the Lady Irish captured the 2010 title and took down the defending champs Clinton.
Caitlin Farris put on an impressive performance on the first day at Laker Hefner’s South Course. She was the only competitor who shot under par, and led the pack with a score of 71.
The Lady Irish finished off Day 1 with a score of 324, but Clinton was close behind at 331. However, McGuinness once again scored 324 on the final day, and finished at the top of the board at 648.
Clinton’s title defense had come to an end, and turned over the crown to the Lady Irish. Caitlin Farris was the best overall individual score, and Grace Casitllo and Hannah Tubbs topped off the six best of the state tournament.
The Lady Irish’s season is one to remember, and Coach Todd Farris can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Congratulations to the McGuinness girls, and let’s hope for a similar result next season!
