The Irish were sloppy early. You could see the team trying to figure out how it is going to adapt to life without Caroline Cameron.

Originally thought to not be that bad of an injury, Cameron tore her ACL last weekend in the loss to Edmond North.

After the first quarter it was 6-4 and midway through the second, it was 15-13. However, after that, the Irish turned it up.

Talking with coach Jennifer Frakes, the depth gives the team a new dimension. It feels like it’s someone new every night, and this night belonged to senior Whitney Ritchie.

Not only is she the best tennis player in the state, she’s a more than competent basketball player. She drained two threes and finished with a game-high 14 points.

The story in the second half was the Irish defense. They speed you up so bad and make you commit turnovers. I believe OCS went seven straight possessions without getting a shot off and turning it over.

Before you knew it, it was 54-21 and all but over.

I liked what I saw from Mackenzie Barnes of OCS. She had to deal with that pressure all game and really never was rattled. She led the Saints with 11 points.

Back with a Day 2 recap Saturday night. Day 2 sees Millwood taking on Bishop McGuinness and Deer Creek battling OCS.

I’ve heard Irish coach Tondrell Durham talk about Joe Edmonds and how special the sophomore is. Hey, he’s right as Edmonds came up big time and time again in scoring 20 points.

Senior Jameel Whitney was also impressive, notching 16 points. It’s so hard for me to think of Whitney as anything other than a hard-hitting linebacker. Whitney has more athleticism than I thought. And for those that know me, I’ve always thought Whitney is something special.

OCS was in a hole early, and I was perplexed as to why T.J. Holland and Jack Warren both didn’t start the game. Warren, a junior, is such a treat to watch.

He can make just about any shot possible and finished with 19 points. Holland had 11, and you can see why OCS should once again be in the hunt.

It never felt like the Irish weren’t in control, but the Saints kept it close. There were several times in the fourth where if OCS could have hit a big 3, the deficit would have been down to four.

As is, OCS will have to bounce back against the Antlers while the Irish and the Falcons should be a heckuva battle early in the day.
