Irish Girls Annihilate Sante Fe, 55-34
The McGuinness girls aren’t a pushover, and Edmond Santa Fe isn’t either. Santa Fe is definitely one of the best teams in 6A girl’s basketball, but the Irish were the big dogs on Thursday night. The Lady Irish crushed the demoralized Santa Fe, 55-34. This is a huge confidence builder for the girls, and was a big statement in the first round of the Edmond Open.
Junior Caroline Cameron led the Irish with 18 points. Behind Cameron was Alexa Lienhard with 10 points, and Cara Pugh who finished with nine. The girls certainly found their rhythm early, and made the Lady Wolves’ lives a nightmare.
The Lady Irish’s defense was good enough to hold Santa Fe’s late rally, and McGuinness stayed undefeated. The Irish have went on a rampage, and no one has been able to compete with the girls. Don’t count McGuinness out of the title picture just yet. With wins over two 5A schools, and 6A power Santa Fe, who knows what Jennifer Frakes’ team can do in the post season.
The girls advanced to the next round against Edmond Memorial, which is going to be at 8:00 PM tonight. Go out and support your Irish!
