Irish Unphased by Davis and Elk City, Win 49-12

November 6th, 2009 No comments

The men of McGuinness finished out the season in style. The offense was on fire, and the defense was stellar. Bishop McGuinness’ win secured their #2 seed, and definitely puts a lot of pressure off the shoulders of the Irish. If the Irish were to lose tonight, they’d be playing #1 Glenpool in the first round of the playoffs. However, they’ll be at home, and far away from Glenpool’s stadium.

The big talk before the game was Elk City’s Will Davis. The up-tempo offense was a huge threat, and with Davis at the head, Elk City had a slight chance at upset. Elk City has much potential, and a win last week would of made this game more interesting. However, the Irish aren’t a joke, and they are smelling a return to the state title game.

McGuinness’ concentration wasn’t broken, and completely obliterated the Elk. Bishop started things off with two touchdowns in the first quarter, and then Camden Tharp aired it out to Jamal Whitney for a 56 yard passing touchdown. The defense was great tonight, but did allow Will Davis to find the end zone twice. Davis scored before the half, and scored in the fourth period.

Once again, LaRone Richardson and Michael…sorry…Sam Crabtree were out of action. The way the offense has recovered from these losses, you got to give a hand to Coach Young. Young was very correct in saying that all three QB’s were on the same level. Camden Tharp, however, brought an option attack to the team. Shanbour and Krahl have had their good moments this season, but Tharp has the majority of the snaps. The way this season has gone, is anyone really complaining?

To quickly touch on the defense, will the Irish defense carry McGuinness throughout the playoffs? The way they played, when they aren’t lazy, would be scary to any coach. Jay Lester and Jamal Whitney being the main threats on the defensive side of the ball. Lester was even able to find the end zone on an interception.

Next week is playoffs, and we will update the site as soon as possible on who they play. Make sure to tune in Friday to our twitter account if you can’t make the game!
