Week 7 Preview: Douglass Trojans
McGuinness has a lot to prove this week. Unlike the Woodward Boomers, the Douglass Trojans are no joke. The one-loss Trojans are looking to extend their four game win streak, and prove something in 4A football. So how do the Trojans favor against the run-and-gun Irish?
Here’s the main concern for that McGuinness defense that did so well last week. In order for McGuinness to win, they are going to have to stop Quinton Neil. Neil is one of the premier running backs in 4A football, and has proven that on the field. He has scored 10 rushing touchdown’s for the Trojans, and has rushed for 647 yards.
Last week Douglass beat the tar out of Guymon, 48-6. Quinton Neil had a big part in the victory, as he ran for two touchdowns, and scored on a 70 yard run. Neil is no joke, he will be tough for the Irish to handle, but here’s a positive thing to look for in this match-up.
The Trojans have been able to get by their first six games without passing the ball at all. They are averaging around 50 passing yards per game. If McGuinness put bring the pressure on Neil, and force Douglass to pass. We could be seeing Pick-6 Irish with the green and black going the other way.
As easy at that sounds, it’ll take more than that. The Irish offense has to go up against a Douglass defense that has completely shut down the run game of their opponents. Not to mention their only giving up about 14 points per game. LaRone Richarson will have to be hitting those holes on Friday, and getting on the scoreboard quickly.
Camden Tharp will also have to be efficient in this game, as any turnover could be a fatal blow to the McGuinness Irish. This is looking to be the toughest home game since Guthrie, and certainly it will come down to the wire.
